Taoist priest, times have changed
A piece of treasure coin brought Yun Song to a great era that was surging with wind and surging clouds.
Here, there were foreigners with strong ships and cannons, warlords and factions everywhere, rich people living in luxury, and people displaced.
Here, there were also monsters, evil spirits, python immortals, dragon corpses, living tombs, dead jade, paper figurines stealing lives, stone Buddhas buying luck, old cats worshiping the moon at night, wild foxes stealing coffins, ancient towns sending messengers of death every day, old villages in the old capital, ten miles of foreign fields filled with haunted houses, white bone temples hidden in thousands of people's pits, and thousand-year-old demons appearing frequently in nameless cities.
Here, there were two sides to the treasure money. The money was used by humans, and the money was used by ghosts. The Cloud Pine had two sides. It was a Taoist priest in Taoist robes, a lonely soul, a ghost, a zombie, an evil Buddha, and a wild city god…

This book is also known as " I thought I was a Taoist priest, but I turned out to be a ghost?"

Sad. There is a LOT more to this book/story than is here. There's the Demon who spent years in the Dungeon in order to develope something like Alix, due to a promise/prophecy (?) to a fallen people. He's not actually part of the Dungeon, just there. There's the dragon, who's on that mountain specifically to guard that hidden village and has something to do with the Demon in the Dungeon. Later, some of the youths who left get captured by the religious freaks and forced to show the way to the village, where the rest are nearly wiped out when the dragon is away from it's cave. Think it's around this time that Alix leaves the cave with some of the surviving Kobolds, runs into the dragon and the fallen race (the religious freaks destroyed their country/people in the past, causing the survivors to build the village in hiding), and encounters the religious freaks again. The religious freaks (who follow a false doctrine, created by a guy who was jealous of magic) fought against the people outside the Dungeon entrance, broke into the Dungeon and end up slaughtering most of the Kobolds. They get their hands on the art and notes about Alix as well as the crystal recording, using that to mislabel him as a Demon, as per their religious texts. They end up fighting him, but fleeing from the wrath of those whose country they invaded to reach the Dungeon after Alix excapes. They only find out what a real Demon is when he shows up in the dragon's lair, scaring the hell out of them before deciding to 'visit' their church/country. Alix ends up taking the fallen people as his own as per the prophecy (?). Later he starts going to a human town in disguise to learn more about blacksmithing. Don't recall when but his spear gets him into a lot of trouble because of what it's made out of. He ends up revisiting the Dungeon to mine more minerals or was it that he wished he could? Can't remember. The Kobolds end up confronting and talking to their 'god', the dragon. It explains to them that due to their stay for so long in the Dungeon, they have evolved into a new type/species of Creature, no longer beholden to it and in control of their own fate. Believe they then decided to stop worshipping the dragon and to find and teach other Kobolds thier new civilization. What I can't recall is anything about that necklace... Do recall that Alix's people end up being treated like a protected species by the Old Monsters in that country and allowed to re-establish a small nation of thier own. Oh, and the stick Alix carries is from the Tree of Life mentioned in that one chapter about world creation. Alix ends up becoming something like one of the Guardian Beasts (or was it the fire spirit that did?), with the duty to protect his new people, who were nearly destroyed due to the upper powers not paying attention, and thus those powers felt guilty, which is where the Demon's plan to create something like Alix comes in. Think he created a fake prophecy to do it, too, but memory is foggy on this part. There's more such as the humans possibly not being from that world in the first place, but as refugees or some such thing. Anyway Alix ends up meeting the Old Monsters, some of the Guardians, and maybe a few other Powers before the end. ****That is why this was a Spoiler****
