Synopsis
*Due to physical disabilities, Iggy is isolated for his own protection. He only knows his two brothers, Baine and Nansen, and their world within a brick wall, called New Eden. In spite of his overbearing brothers, Iggy sneaks out of his room and goes into the garden during the day, where he comes in contact with a strange woman. Before he can say anything to her, he loses consciousness, and awakens to her biting his face. As his only caregivers, his brothers save him from the woman, but they cannot save him from himself. Soon after the attack, Iggy is overcome with depression and craves nothing more than to end his own life. But then, a survivor arrives, and changes everything for the worst and the better.* *Baine infects Iggy with the virus. Iggy's body becomes perfect in all ways and he is granted unique powers (umbrakinesis). Things are going well, until Iggy sees the color red and his thirst reflex awakens. It is all a matter of time before Iggy's bloodlust leads the F.U.S military to New Eden, to destroy everything that Baine has created. Especially the infected ones.*

This is a gritty, ambitious, and genuinely engaging take on the transmigration genre. Unlike the typical fantasy isekai, you have chosen a historical setting—Ancient Rome—and then added a clever twist: it's not the Rome we know. The revelation in Chapter 10 that Brutus won at Philippi and Octavian is a prisoner rather than the future Augustus is the kind of genre-savvy subversion that makes experienced readers sit up and pay attention. The prose is raw, visceral, and unflinching. The action scenes have real weight. The system is present but not overwhelming. And the protagonist, Alex, feels like a real person—scared, resourceful, and slowly hardening without losing his humanity. That said, there are recurring issues with pacing, over-explanation, dialogue, and a tendency to tell rather than show that hold the novel back from excellence. With targeted revisions, this could be a standout WebNovel. Recommendations: 1. Cut internal explanations by 50%. Trust the reader to infer emotion. 2. Vary sentence structure. The repetitive "That was X" / "Not Y, just Z" patterns are distracting. 3. Accelerate the plot. Alex needs to fight in the arena again before Chapter 10. 4. Seed the alternate history earlier. A small hint in Chapters 2-3 would prepare readers. 5. Reduce physical reaction clichés (hissing, gritting, cold blood). Chapter-by-Chapter observation Chapter 1: The Arena Strengths Brutal, effective opening hook The system introduction is well-timed The crowd reaction (women exposing themselves) is historically plausible and shocking Weaknesses The transition from Earth to arena is too abrupt (one line about a rumble in sleep) Alex acclimates to killing very quickly for a normal person The "ping!" sound effect is used 4 times in one page Chapter 2: The Meat Grinder Strengths The medical ward (Gaius amputation) is vividly disgusting and memorable Aurellia's introduction through Ignatius's POV creates intrigue The system tasks (pushups, situps) create real physical stakes Weaknesses Long stretches of exposition (Alex talking to himself about eras) The switch to Aurellia's POV feels abrupt mid-chapter The "shit pit" is set up but not used until Chapter 4 Chapter 3: Nobles of The Flesh Strengths The orgy scene is appropriately decadent and uncomfortable Aurellia's manipulation of Ignatius is clear and tense The last-second task completion (00:00:01) is genuinely nail-biting Weaknesses The chapter title is misleading (only one scene is the orgy) Alex's "who's talking behind my back?" line is tonally off (too modern/jokey) The transition back to Alex is jarring Chapter 4: The Pit Strengths The shit pit is as horrible as promised Spartacus's introduction is well-handled (the handshake, the humor) The "breakfast" punchline is darkly funny Weaknesses Akosa's dialogue is repetitive ("the giant slayer" three times) The amputated man's removal is glossed over too quickly The chapter ends mid-scene (transition to the ludus is abrupt) Chapter 5: The White One Strengths Alex's internal excitement about meeting Spartacus is relatable The training montage is efficient The sparring match (Spartacus vs. giant) is brutal and well-choreographed The cliffhanger ("Fight!") works Weaknesses Too much internal monologue about historical dates Ignatius naming Alex "Albius" feels arbitrary The "ping! +5 points for tenacity" appears randomly Chapter 6: Footsteps Strengths Alex's spar (using Temporal Dilatation) is tense and clever The "draw" outcome (rather than a win) is realistic The underground dungeon scene with Agrippa and Octavian is intriguing Weaknesses The transition to Brutus's dungeon scene is jarring (no scene break) Brutus's dialogue is cartoonishly villainous ("Out of the abundance of my heart") The chapter ends on a cliffhanger that isn't resolved until Chapter 10 Chapter 7: Like Smoke Strengths The bath house scene is a good change of pace Oseka's introduction ("ghost feet") is effective Ignatius's "like smoke" line is evocative Weaknesses The chapter is mostly transitional (bath, breakfast, office visit) The food descriptions (porridge, bread, posca) go on too long Aurellia's "new bidder" scene is too brief to matter Chapter 8: Sit Tight Strengths The physical reconstruction (waking up taller, stronger) is a great payoff The midnight training (pull-ups, running) builds sympathy The system upgrade choice (charges vs. duration) is meaningful Weaknesses The "physical reconstruction" happens off-screen (he just wakes up) The "sit tight" instruction is never explained Oseka barely appears despite being Alex's roommate Chapter 9: When the Time is Right Strengths Akosa's confusion is genuinely funny Gaius's reaction (pinching his nose, "stand downwind") is perfect The healing revelation (no more pain, scrape gone) is satisfying Weaknesses Spartacus's "waiting for you" scene feels forced (how did he know?) The "I'll tell you when the time is right" is a cliché delay tactic The chapter ends without advancing the plot toward the arena Chapter 10: Wrong Side of History (Title mismatch: "Broken History" in header) Strengths The alternate history reveal is the novel's best moment Brutus's speech is appropriately propagandistic Agrippa's seven-kill sequence is visceral and impressive Alex's realization ("This isn't my history") is well-paced Weaknesses The flashback structure ("Four hours earlier") disrupts momentum The chapter is extremely long (covers transport, holding area, Brutus's speech, and half the fight) Octavian is a passive observer (just holding a shield) Chapter 11: Still Standing Strengths Agrippa's continued slaughter (11 men) is brutally effective The crowd's silence after the first seven kills is powerful Alex watching from the holding area creates a strong parallel Weaknesses The chapter ends mid-action (gate opening with 11 more men) Alex's role is purely observational—he doesn't act The chapter is short (feels like half a chapter)
