There was no fixed number of words in a letter. In a formal letter, the length of the letter is usually two lines, each line has the same number of words, such as a long letter or mail in English. However, the length of a letter could vary according to its content, purpose, and tone. For example, a short greeting or thank-you letter might only be a few dozen words, while a formal resignation or complaint letter might be hundreds of words long. The length of the letter should be decided according to the specific situation, avoiding being too long or too short. At the same time, pay attention to the specifications of typography and format.

There was usually a limit to the number of words a web novel could update. This involved the interests of the author, the website, and the readers. Some novels might require a certain number of words to be updated every day or week, or a certain number of words to be updated during a certain period of time. For the author, updating the word count would also affect the income of the novel and the feedback from the readers. Some authors might limit the number of words they update to a certain range to ensure the quality and number of words of the novel. Generally speaking, the word count rule for online novels was a comprehensive consideration of the interests of the author, the website, and the readers to ensure the quality of the novel and the reader's experience.

The 19th chapter of Drinking Wine was written by Tao Yuanming of the Jin Dynasty. The poem described his experience of being an official because of hunger and cold, and returning to the fields because of shame. In the past, the poet suffered from long-term hunger, so he put down his farming tools and went to be an official. However, he could not rest and recuperate properly in the officialdom, and was always troubled by cold and hunger. At that time, he was nearly thirty years old. He felt that there were many things that made him feel ashamed of being an official, so he resolutely followed his duty and returned to the countryside. Time slowly passed, and another epoch (twelve years) passed. The path of the world was vast and long, just like the situation Yang Zhu faced, and he stopped his official career. Although he didn't spend money like dirt, he could console himself with wine. This poem expressed the poet's interest in seclusion and his disgust for official career.
