things were worse

It really depends. Sometimes comics can provide entertainment and inspiration, while in some cases they might not have a positive impact. It all comes down to the specific comic and how it's presented and interpreted.

Maybe the plot or characters weren't developed well in the comic, causing it to have a negative impact.

Maybe he has a lack of understanding or makes poor decisions that lead to negative outcomes.

The idiom "make a fool of oneself" means to try to be clever and do well, but end up doing something stupid or messing things up. There was such an allusion to its origin: The Northern Song Dynasty painter Sun Zhiwei painted the Painting of the Nine Stars. After the draft was made, he asked his disciple to color it and told him not to color it wrongly. After he left, his disciples looked at the draft and praised it. Only Tong Ren, who usually did not study hard, did not speak. When others asked him about the shortcomings of the draft, he confidently added a red plum to the bottle in the painting. When Sun Zhiwei came back, he was furious because the bottle was originally used to contain demons. After it was painted into a vase, the painting was destroyed. This was a typical case of overreaching. He wanted to take advantage of it to save trouble, but he made things worse. There were similar situations in daily life. For example, in a business transaction, a young man selling watermelons asked a customer to choose a watermelon. He wanted to facilitate the transaction, but because the watermelon was sold at a higher price, the customer chose a watermelon with a higher price, making him feel that he had lost a lot. This was also a self-defeating performance. Read more exciting novels for free
