Dia mengalami gangguan otak yg disebut “Cerebral palsy” dimana terjadi kelemahan pd otot2, keseimbangan & pergerakan tubuh. Dia tidak bisa ambil & pegang gelas utk minum air sendiri. Kancing baju sendiri juga tidak bisa. Juga bicaranya tidak jelas spt anak2 biasa lainnya. Hidupnya betul2 memerlukan bantuan org lain, yg dia dapat dri ibu kandungnya yg sangat mengasihi dan merawatnya dg baik. Waktu David berumur 11 tahun, ayahnya (pendeta gereja Baptis) meninggal dunia. 3 tahun kmd ibunya meninggal dunia dan hatinya sangat hancur. David bergumul dg depressi dan berkali-kali ingin bunuh diri selama 2 tahun, sampai dia putus sekolah (SMA). Pd wkt itulah Tuhan memakai kakak perempuannya utk membimbingnya menerima Kristus pd th 1970. David dilahirkan baru dlm Kristus, hidupnya berubah total dan dia tamat SMA th 1971..
