INTRODUCTION
In the Relic World, everyone falls into one of two ranks: Summoners and Hollows. Summoners are the lucky ones—the ones who bond with powerful, mystical beasts at the age of ten, unlocking abilities that make them stronger, faster, and, let’s be honest, way too smug about it.
And then there are the Hollows. The ones who don’t bond with a beast. The ones who get bullied, pitied, and treated like background characters in someone else’s grand adventure.
Guess which group I belong to?
By eleven, I had fully embraced my existence as Edward Wilson, Professional Nobody. No beast. No power. Just me, my two perfectly unremarkable hands, and an ever-growing collection of creative insults thrown my way. Honestly, I had reached a point where being called “worthless” barely qualified as creative anymore. I had accepted my place in the grand hierarchy of life—right at the bottom, next to “dirt” and “old gum stuck under a table.”
But then, the impossible happened.
A Primordial Beast bonded with me. And not just any beast—the most powerful, most legendary, most terrifying creature the world has ever seen. The kind that should’ve chosen a great warrior or a destined hero, not… me.
Now, instead of fading into the background like a proper Hollow, I’m stuck surviving combat classes, Summoners glaring at me, teachers whispering about me, ancient mysteries showing up everywhere, and rumors about the terrifying Void Walkers spreading across the Relic World.
So, to sum up: I went from being ignored to possibly being connected to something ancient, dangerous, and probably world-ending.
…This is why I hate surprises.
