Waktu dia dilahirkan (28/10/1953) David Ring udah dinyatakan mati selama 18 menit. Tetapi waktu seorang perawat memegang & mengangkat nya, dia kembali bernafas. Namun krn selama 18 menit tidak bernafas, otaknya tidak dapat Oksigen yg cukup dan rusak parah. Dia mengalami gangguan otak yg disebut “Cerebral palsy” dimana terjadi kelemahan pd otot2, keseimbangan & pergerakan tubuh. Dia tidak bisa ambil & pegang gelas utk minum air sendiri. Kancing baju sendiri juga tidak bisa. Juga bicaranya tidak jelas spt anak2 biasa lainnya. Hidupnya betul2 memerlukan bantuan org lain, yg dia dapat dri ibu kandungnya yg sangat mengasihi dan merawatnya dg baik. Waktu David berumur 11 tahun, ayahnya (pendeta gereja Baptis) meninggal dunia. 3 tahun kmd ibunya meninggal dunia dan hatinya sangat hancur. David bergumul dg depressi dan berkali-kali ingin bunuh diri selama 2 tahun, sampai dia putus sekolah (SMA). Pd wkt itulah Tuhan memakai kakak perempuannya utk membimbingnya menerima Kristus pd th 1970. David dilahirkan baru dlm Kristus, hidupnya berubah total dan dia tamat SMA th 1971.. Wkt dia diberi pekerjaan membersihkan WC di gereja, pd suatu hari sambil membersihkan WC, dia bilang ke Tuhan, “Tuhan, kalau pekerjaan ini yg Tuhan mau utk sy lakukan seumur hidup sy, saya puas (I am content).” Kmd Tuhan memberinya beban & panggilan utk melayaniNya (full time ministry). Namun waktu dia sampaikan itu ke pendeta di gerejanya, dia ditertawakan dan pendetanya bilang bhw tidak mungkin dia bisa terlibat dlm pelayanan itu bahkan mungkin dia tidak akan bisa dapat istri. Th 1976 David Ring mendaftar utk kuliah Teologia di STT. Dia ditolak dg alasan bhw bicaranya pelan sekali. David kecewa, tapi dia bilang ke Tuhan, “Tuhan, kalau Engkau membukakan pintu, aku akan memasukinya!”. Dan sejak itu Tuhan membukakan pintu baginya setiap hari utk khotbah di mana2. Puji Tuhan Kenyataannya, Tuhan sudah memakai David Ring melayaniNya sejak 1973, dimana tiap tahun David bicara ke kira2 100ribu orang. Tuhan memberinya istri yg cantik pd th 1981, dan 4 anak (cucunya). Dia bilang, “ Saya punya Cerebral Palsy, tetapi Cerebral Palsy TIDAK MEMILIKI SAYA!!!”.
