all american murder novel

since it is American tv and i watched most shows i hoped in expecting something like more American but all i found was these characters behaving like Chinese characters which i actually like to read but in a Chinese novel not here

This is such a confusing story in the sense that it's written like it was translated from a Chinese novel, but the characters are all anglosized and it's set in the USA. Did a translator decide to make it more American? or did an American writer decide to copy the Chinese style? Super weird...
