All I can say is, if you build your MC as a cruel and all powerful demon lord or any almighty being. Please refer to chinese novels, because THEY AIN'T A WUSS and have pride even if they are in front of relatives. So trying to salvage it by making him seem amazing will never work as you already ruined the story by making a self-contradicting character which does not even have a single reason to be so. Unless you are Disney for that matter.
