I just started reading The Nexus: New York, especially Chapter 1, “Paging Dr. Deadpool, We Have a Reality Problem.” That opening moment Harley Davis, a Miami barista and Deadpool superfan, waking up in a dingy New York apartment with his favorite comic in hand has such visual potential that would translate beautifully into comic panels. Harley, groggy and disoriented, surveys his surroundings gray walls, mismatched furniture, and a broken skateboard that screams, “I was cool in 1997.” He shuffles to the window, expecting a view of palm trees and sunshine, but instead, he’s greeted by the gritty reality of New York City. The alley outside is straight out of a crime drama, complete with flickering neon lights and a puddle that definitely isn't just water. In a panic, Harley grabs his Deadpool comic, flipping through its pages as if the answer might be hidden in the margins. Suddenly, a voice drawls, “Do what?” Harley spins around, heart hammering, but the room is empty. The faint sound of laughter echoes Deadpool's laughter. This surreal and humorous moment, filled with confusion and a touch of absurdity, would make for a gripping visual sequence. The contrast between Harley's ordinary life and the bizarre situation he finds himself in adds layers to the narrative, making it all the more engaging.
