to put it bluntly the author says there is one soul two bodies, but based off of how he writes it and how he describes it. it is two souls two bodies with a shared perception and a closely tied conscience. so they see feel and know what the others experiencing, but they are not the same person the way they act in the way they go about their daily business is completely different. and he writes it as if the female version is a different person repeatedly in the first two chapters, he does not write it as if they are one conscience between two bodies.
