This could have been really good but the author decided to force character "development" through- spoiler -trauma and instead of actually addressing the trauma one of the wisest men in fiction decides what the MC needs is friends since he's never had any. Author, you made him feel the heartbeats of people that were dying buried alive, that kind of trauma isn't something people can just snap back from because someone they trust says doing something is for their own good.
