So I haven’t read much of the story (sorry) but the reason is your word choice while maybe being technically correct causes the flow to be horrible because I have to pause because the sentence was going fine then you put something like “ There was a man on a hill walking by The river” it looks right, but the word choice of “The river” rather than “ a river” when you were general about everything including the character diverts all attention to the river rather than the man. It’s a bunch of little things like that that make it feel like I’m reading a machine translation novel rather than something wrote by a human in the English language. I’d recommend just going back and editing some stuff or running it through some grammar checker or something, it’d just improve the reading experience by a lot.
