Game-1 [Honest Review] Hello dear author of V'ss, I am a reader and avid enjoyer of your novel. I have been reading your novel for about a year, and let's just say… it has been an experience… And I have been trying to reach about your car's extended warra— I mean I wanted to reach out to you and thank you for not dropping the novel. I appreciate you and I love the novel and I hope that I am able to encourage you to continue writing. \•∆•\ How I Stumbled Upon V'ss On a very average day, I was sitting and sifting through other novels, reading synopses, trying to find something interesting, adding things to my library… yada yada… Then I stumbled upon a photo of a white-haired girl wearing a white dress and holding a glass of wine… and it clicked. The cover was interesting enough, so I decided to read the synopsis. After reading it, I thought it was going to be another one of those weird novels where the mother villainess falls for the MC or is obsessed with the MC and becomes the main female lead… But I decided not to judge and read a few chapters. —————————————·—·—————·—·—·—–—– {°∆°} Bias What happens when a reader stumbles upon a novel that has exactly all the clichés and tags they enjoy? Well, that’s what happened to me. Suffering MC + misunderstood + unwilling hero + sick names + Esmeray. No words can describe how shook I was when I read about Esmeray… Not a mother. Not a harem member. But an actual villainess. The way Inder reacted when he first got transmigrated, I at first thought it wouldn’t be that bad… (It was worse.) And the first chapter had me hooked. Like I had been mind-manipulated by Esmeray to automatically read the second, then the third, then the fortieth. If I start babbling about each chapter, then I’m afraid this won’t be considered a review but a novel on its own, so I’m going to review five main things: |•) Action ||•) Main Character |||•) Side Characters |√•) Storytelling + Story Writing √•) Peculiar Arcs —————————————·—·—————·—·—·—–—– |•) Action The action throughout Game-1 has been very fun but a bit… sloppy and could have been described better. But it was still very enjoyable. Each ability of every character was given equal attention. And the MVP was Amun Ra’s blessings. Like holy hell, were the names cool — Naqsal and the others. The action was, most of the time, well-paced and very enjoyable. Especially in a few arcs, it felt truly thrilling. Overall: 8.5/10 (Dramatic improvement has been made.) —————————————·—·—————·—·—·—–—– ||•) Main Character Cool as hell. No words for the edgy Az… He was like a bug clutching onto life desperately, and that desperation was what made him alive. You know how sometimes characters influence readers? I think Az has influenced me a lot as well. Seeing him suffer, relent, and be pushed down — I could relate to that suffering. Like if Az, a 15-year-old teenager, can live despite the things thrown at him, I can too. After all, his suffering was way worse, and mine is less. Seeing Az be desperate, seeing the circumstances that made him — the hero — be hated from all sides… man, that was something. And especially the flashbacks. Like when Christina showed up and we got the flashback where her brother had died and everyone blamed him. He acted indifferent, but as soon as they left… he cried, clutching her younger brother’s grave, crying because he wasn’t strong enough to save him. Begging him to forgive him… Lowkey, Az’s development into a villain was… understandable. Each suffering pushed him away from his friends and lovers and into Esmeray’s hands. All because that kind idiot wanted to protect the ones who loved him and held him dear. And his most badass title — “Crying Puppet.” Holy peak. Seriously, Az had one of the saddest lives in Game-1, and how he, like a worm, crawled despite being crushed and hated but still clung to life… Cinema. That’s it. Az’s development in Game-1 was great. When he openly stood against Delwyn. When he fought to shield Ines. How he became better. And more importantly, more than just a puppet. (I was listening to “Let Down” by Radiohead.) The irresponsible dumbass took responsibility. Happiness that is earned through suffering — that is the best kind. Really good. Really good. Peak character. Peak Mount Everest. 10/10 (I don’t care what others say. Az was a great MC. Not a goody-two-shoes hero. Not perfect. Not the best. He was human. He felt alive. He was more than just a character in a novel for me.) Thank you, author, for writing Azariah Noah Alijanah. Did I mention the names are fire? —————————————·—·—————·—·—·—–—– |||•) Side Characters Oliver and Ishmael — no words needed. One thing you often don’t see in web novels is properly built side characters. But Game-1 was an exception. Each character was more than just a supporting role. They were their own people with their own troubles, their own likes, and more than just part of the supporting cast. They had to fight their own battles. Take Ashlyn, for example. She had her own trauma to overcome. She had her sister she desperately wanted to protect. She loved blueberries and talking to others. Her cheery personality and individuality made her feel like a character who was her own person rather than someone who only revolved around the MC. The side stories of each character captured that development and attention perfectly. Oliver’s side story, Ethan’s, and others showed how they saw the world. And Delwyn's side story.... That was a masterpiece. Like it made you feel like you were Delwyn. Like you were the man who had lost his wife, the infant she carried, your son. Oh my god did that chapter tore me apart. Like I understood Delwyn and in full honesty don't blame him. His actions are completely justified. Like wanted Esmeray to feel what he felt when he lost his loved ones. This way the character are more memorable and I genuinely start to miss them a lot. And now for the two GOATs of side characters. Oliver. Can I say something? He. Is. The. GOAT. Best side character. Gay jokes. The one who would gift you a glow-in-the-dark condom. I can’t describe how much I have loved this character — his jokes and everything about him. He is also a major reason why Az didn’t go down the villain route. Ishmael. Or should I say, “Ishmael D. Daddy.” Two quotes from him are enough to show his majesty: “Azariah, as long as you believe in yourself, there is no army in Lumina that can defeat you.” “Till the day I am able to hold a sword, no one will harm you.” Man, I miss Ishmael. He was Az’s father figure. He was the GOAT. Sigh… what is life? And the Villainess she deserves her own paragraph Esmeray: The Villainess, the marionettist I thought that she was going to get wooed but here we are. She is a bitch don't trust her. Aside from that she was the first Villainess who made me hold me breath. like without even trying she guess that it was Inder not Azariah. and that bitch tried to kill all of his friends. Genuine bitch. Awesome Villainess. Would love to see her die a death worse than a street dog. And no amount of justification can ever- nothing can ever help her beat her charges. 10/10 for side characters. —————————————·—·—————·—·—·—–—– |√•) Storytelling + Story Writing Romance: 10/10 :::- Game one romance was executed so perfectly it felt more fucking natural than nature. And tbh. It was. The development with Senara and Ashlyn was....it can't be put into words how good it was. Like it felt natural like how these two people grew close to each felt naturally like their relationship was fated type shit 🥀🥀🥀. And can we get a round of a applause for best waifu? And by best waifu I meant Christina. Most loving wife. She never gave up on Az and she is the only person in the entire novel that deserves him. She didn't let go of him at his worst. Held tightly on to him no matter what he did and she deserves him at his best. Unlike Shyamal that only became good to him after his hate for her became justified in her eyes, Christina loved Az even when he tried to hate her and make her give up on him. I want to write more but...let's continue with the next thing . [I miss this type of rom-com in G-2 🥲] The storytelling always painted a black, white, and grey reality in my mind. The story was at first very confusing, and I couldn’t understand anything. But eventually, as I read, the dots connected, and the lore was peak. The story always had a grey outlook on life and on the amount of suffering a character endured. That’s why I always imagined grey skies, and only a few times — in flashbacks — did colors appear. Colors were easier times that gave hope and life… but nothing good lasts forever. As for the lore… well, I can’t really put it into words, but it was peak. And one more thing about G-1 that i loved was ’the uncertainty‘. Like Az was strong, strong enough to save himself, but never strong enough to save everyone. So in every Arc there was this feeling, this rush of uncertainty and anxiety, something that has you on your toes wondering which character could die or when he would be overpowered, i would wonder what he would do to save himself or others, and it wasn't like the other characters were shallow and unlovable, you made sure that each character was unique and memorable. That's why Darth Island had my flabbers throughly ghasted. 🥀🥀🥀 [Ps - Tragedy is my favourite tag] And we need Side Stories of Character back in G-2 aswell. Like desperately. And what happened to introducing more about Andranaur? Weren’t the royal families of the Asura wiped out because they enslaved Andranaur? But anyway, the lore is one that takes time to connect. It is enjoyable and keeps a person on their toes. Especially that flashback Az heard when he awakened his race. 67/69 —————————————·—·—————·—·—·—–—– √•) Peculiar Arcs Darth Island and He Who Should Not Exist are my favorites. He Who Should Not Exist had this feeling — I don’t know how to describe it — but I loved it. And did I mention that Emperor’s Time is busted as hell? The fight against Delwyn + Ethan, then Christina’s death — all of it was like a well-put symphony for the final arc. If you ever rewrite some parts of Game-1, please rewrite Hollow Town because it felt confusing as hell. Like Oliver dies, they come back from Darth Island, and I don’t even know what happened. Did Az go to the Academy? Did he talk with Ashlyn? Nothing was explained, and it confused me a lot. —————————————·—·—————·—·—·—–—– [/•\] Overall The story is a solid 9/10. Some elements could have been executed better or explained more clearly, such as the time skip after Darth Island.
