If you’re translating a new novel, I recommend using Japanese names if it’s an anime fanfic set in Japan, or Western-style names if it’s set in another world or in a Western-like setting. If it’s set in China and the character has a Chinese name, that’s acceptable. But if the story is set outside of China and the MC still has a Chinese name, it’s very annoying.
