Before there ever was a boy that ever lived in a cupboard on Four Privet Drive, there was a similar boy in a far worse home that lived on Spinner’s End. We all know the tale of that abused boy who grew up to become a bitter spy. But not all tales end the same for in the many parallel worlds that exist in the universe there are far better endings, and equally as many worse ones. This is a tale of one such condemned universe that for better or for worse chooses to change its own fate at through the sacrifice of the bitter spy. I have a huge problem with this fic. At least with the rating. Ultimately, I give it a 3/1/3/3/3. First and foremost, the author's original sin: abandoning work in favor of a new project. Although I can understand that, considering that many of us are those who willingly jump from one idea to another—those who have countless ideas, each one better than the last—but ultimately end up not finishing anything. The beginning and reason for getting rid of Damian... so-so, but I understand that it was clearly based on Dusan al Ghul. So it still has some coherence. Besides, I like the dynamic between Cassandra and Damian. However, what makes this work so mediocre is its massive inconsistency. Above all, how much Damian is empowered upon his arrival at the League, yet he's unable to win, nor does he even pose any challenge to Shiva. Not to mention that when he faces Richard Dragon, he should have been almost his equal, or at least a decent opponent. The entire training arc, in fact, feels like it dragged on and on, but ultimately, nothing much came of it. While it started with Cassandra and Damian drawing to a close, it ended the same way: they killed each other. In summary, while I enjoy villain stories, especially in DC, this one is mediocre at best, in my opinion. Especially since Damian, so far, hasn't done anything truly repulsive or despicable, or that would qualify him as a villain. I can only hope that things will improve in the future... if they continue at all, because I sincerely doubt it.
