Domestic Na Kanojo
Domestic Na Kanojo is a manga by mangaka Sasuga Kei, who has another reputed series under her belt called Good Ending. I shall be referring to Domestic Na Kanojo as DomeKano for the rest of this article. It began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shounen Magazine in April 2014, which is also where I first read it. I followed it up until fifty something chapters, but was afraid of emotional attachment and didn’t continue reading. Now in January of 2019, I took it upon myself to catch up with old manga series I had paused or forgotten about and I got to DomeKano pretty late, in February in fact. Noticing that it was going to be getting an anime, or already had one ongoing(I forget), I caught up to the latest chapter, I believe 217 or 218 in one day. I was not prepared for the sequence of events that took place.
The story is about a guy named Natsuo Fuji(at that time a highschooler), who is in love with his teacher, Hina. Hina has been facing emotional problems(Due to her affair with a married man, Hagiwara Shuu) and talking to Natsuo really comforts her, so they meet a lot on the school rooftops. Natsuo recognizes that Hina will probably never return his feelings and decides to try and move on, so he attends a mixer(social parties to meet new people) and ends up having a one night stand with a girl named Rui. He thinks that he is in the process of moving on from Hina when his father remarries. The day his new step-mother shows up with her two daughter changes his life forever as it turns out that Hina and Rui are now his step-sisters. It’s gonna be all rant from now.
Let me take a pause here and talk about some out of context stuff, because just recalling the basic plot is already making me fume with anger at what happens later on. I want to address what has been coined on the internet as ‘surprise incest’ and the ‘teacher sex’. Many people automatically condemn this series due to the fact that Natsuo has sex with Rui and Hina, even though they’re his step-sister and Hina is also his teacher(yes, he bangs them both after they become step-siblings). I don’t find anything wrong with that in this particular context. You have to understand that real life incest and teachers having relations with students is wrong(most times), due to the set of circumstances behind those events. Most real life incest happens either due to force, pressure, misconceptions, stress and often has unsavory consequences, for society and the individuals involved, for you see, incest is not normal, definitely not normal. Having an occasion sibling-complex or oedipus complex is understood, it’s because the person you’re having weird feeling for looks and maybe acts like you, but for a normal person, the way they’re raised and just how love works, it’s quite impossible for a sexual relation to bloom between siblings. Love is something that is accrued in very specific circumstances and the title of siblings simply does not allow for such circumstances to brew, so more often than not, when it comes to real life incest, it’s often a one-sided and forced deal, however when it comes to the relationship between Natsuo and Rui or Natsuo and Hina, then there are many things to consider.First, let’s talk about the relationship between Natsuo and Rui. They had a one night stand, it being their first time for both of them.

The need to highlight the ills of domestic violence can not be overemphasized! A lot of women and even men suffer from domestic abuse all in the name of love. It is not right to tolerate such abuse. We need to learn to walk way and say no to domestic violence!
