Eternity In Rust
"In a world where Qi is poison, filtering rust is an art. But to survive, sometimes you must become the rust itself."
A thousand years ago, the Jade Dragon—guardian of cosmic balance—fell in the War of the Gods. Its divine blood mingled with the metallic dust of a shattered celestial forge, birthing the Eternal Rust. Now, humanity clings to its last bastion: Iron Dome City. A colossal walled metropolis divided into five rigid caste Zones. At the top, Zone 1 gleams with jade floors and purified air. At the bottom, Zone 5 is a hell of toxic air where rust is law, and scavenger gangs write the rules with iron clubs.
Here lives Kai "Charcoal" Arang, a 17-year-old boy with a death sentence. Born with the Rust Fever—a rare defect that makes his Dantian (energy core) dangerously porous and overactive—his own body burns him alive from the inside. The doctors say he won't see his twentieth birthday. As a bottom-tier scavenger, his life is a grinding loop: dig through scrap heaps, trade metal for stale ration bricks, and dodge the wrath of the Old Iron General, the brutal leader of the Rust Claw gang.
But on the 47th day of the Rust Rain season, fate bites back. Deep within the Great Scrap Mound, Kai unearths a pale green jade shard—a relic of the last Wise Emperor. The shard melts into his palm, awakening a second energy vortex in his chest. The Filtered Qi Codex – Seventh Fragment has activated. Kai now possesses a Double Dantian: one in his belly that burns, one in his chest that filters. He becomes the first human in millennia to purify toxic Qi without an artificial filter—expelling the waste as valuable Rust Powder and absorbing pure blue Qi to strengthen his frail body.
But power is a curse. The Old Iron General wants to crack his chest open to harvest the fragment. Zone 3 alchemists want to dissect him. And secretly, the Worn Master—a legless exile who recognizes the ancient script on the fragment—whispers a horrifying truth: "The Governors of Zone 1 poisoned the Qi on purpose, Kai. So that we would all kneel."
Kai's journey begins. From scavenging filth, he must survive the deadly trials of the Rusted Sword Sect in Zone 4, outmaneuver jealous rivals, and uncover that the Sect Master is hiding the 2nd fragment to sustain his own crumbling power. From there, he leads a suicidal expedition into the Rust Sea—the forbidden wasteland beyond the city walls, home to the Rust-Walkers: failed cultivators who have turned into screaming iron statues. There, he meets Whispering Mei, a mysterious messenger whose jade back-tattoo is actually a map to the 4th fragment.
Arc by arc, Kai gathers four of the seven Codex fragments. Each grants him a new ability—metal manipulation, wound healing, even flight. But in the jade towers of Zone 1, the Council of Immortal Governors begins to notice the threat from below. They send bounty hunters, shadow assassins, and even awaken a legendary hero who has slept for 500 years—all to stop the "Scavenger Virus" named Kai Arang.
At the climax, Kai uncovers the final truth: the Wise Emperor did not die. His heart became the Codex—and to unite all fragments, someone must sacrifice their own heart. In the midst of a civil war between Zone 1 and Zone 5, Kai must make a choice: become the new Jade Dragon who purifies the world, or let Iron Dome City crumble into its own eternal rust.
"The art of eternity isn't living forever," the Worn Master whispers in his final breath. "The art of eternity is leaving a mark that rust cannot touch."
