You want to see real apocalypse, just go and watch Mad Max or Book of Eli. Apocalypse doesn't justify any of that behavior and if a character shows any of it, he can't be said to be good or saint, just because he don't do something that his enemy does do not make him a good person. Even Hitler's action can be said to be a work of a saint, when compared to the crusades that were done by church in 11th century.
