This is a wild turn of events! The author keeps the story exciting and unpredictable. I'm loving the introduction of these powerful individuals, each vying for the chance to heal Xiao Jie. The monk's reaction to Shen, and the arrival of the man with his daughter, are really intriguing. I'm especially interested in this man's offer of a betrothal. What does this say about the power dynamics at play? Is there something more to these characters and their sudden appearances? This is a great cliffhanger! I can't wait to see what happens next!

This is a wild, dramatic story with a seriously supernatural twist! It starts with this epic, almost movie-like scene of the dad defending his family against bullies. You really feel the tension and the raw anger. But then the story takes a turn into the mystical with the whole 'three-year calamity' and the spirit protector thing. It felt like a bit of a jarring shift at first, but the way the grandma explains it all makes it totally believable, especially with the weasels and foxes and everything. Honestly, it was kind of creepy and fascinating. I loved the dynamic between the grandpa and the grandma, how they worked together to try and help the Zhang family even though they'd done wrong. But the ending... wow, just when you think everything's going to be okay, BAM! It's so dark and unexpected. This story definitely left me with a lot to think about!
