You really feel the tension and the raw anger. But then the story takes a turn into the mystical with the whole 'three-year calamity' and the spirit protector thing. It felt like a bit of a jarring shift at first, but the way the grandma explains it all makes it totally believable, especially with the weasels and foxes and everything. Honestly, it was kind of creepy and fascinating. I loved the dynamic between the grandpa and the grandma, how they worked together to try and help the Zhang family even though they'd done wrong. But the ending... wow, just when you think everything's going to be okay, BAM! It's so dark and unexpected. This story definitely left me with a lot to think about!
