Alright, let’s get this straight. I’m not the target audience for this book, and I’m not looking to be swept off my feet. I picked this up more out of curiosity than craving, mainly to study structure, pacing, and character execution. So if you’re looking for someone to fangirl along with you, keep walking. That said? There’s some merit here, under all the glitter. The prose is fluid, accessible, and visually evocative. Clearly written to appeal to a younger, emotionally driven readership. The author does have a knack for imagery and atmosphere; I’ll give her that. Scenes unfold with a cinematic flair, and emotional beats are milked to full capacity. Personally, it’s a bit much like being spoon-fed sugar for hours but I can see the appeal for those into that sort of thing. As for me? I didn’t “fall in love” with the story but I learned from it. It’s a masterclass in emotionally manipulative storytelling, and I say that with reluctant respect. There’s a reason people can’t stop reading: it’s calculated, clean, and effective. Not for grumps like me, but I can see why people are eating it up. If you're studying how to write emotionally resonant, binge-worthy fiction with a romantic slant, there's plenty to dissect here :) just keep the insulin close.
