let us just say probably not. without Yao Lao he looses 99% of his plot armour. No alchemy no flames he would probably reach a plateau and would need outside help. and his charakter doesn`t scream i am a nice guy pls help i won´t offend somebody every 10 chapters. and suddenly die because he is missing the ability to make pill, flames or technqiucs. Not to say anything from the wisdom. he looses "3 years" but he makes up for it with a better foundation and no hidden injuries, in no time he would overtake his former self.

I think he's fine, his plot armor is very strong, few of his 'chance encounters' in the middle and later part of the work have anything to do with yao lao, of course the base he gained from yao lao is very great, be it alchemy or the flame swallowing technique, but the plot armor should make up for it, although he probably wouldn't be the 'flame emperor' anymore.
