Branching out from my usual reads and happy I did! Definitely would recommend it because I’m really enjoying it so far—only 5 chaps in, but hooked enough to keep reading. A few mysteries have already been introduced, and I’m curious to find out what leads up to the synopsis scene and what happens afterward. It’s an easy read in that I don’t have to labor through wordy or overly descriptive filler scenes, but the content clearly shows thought and a familiarity of the topics discussed. MC is an intellectual, and I’m so glad I don’t find myself rolling my eyes. I’m not an archeologist, but I’m familiar enough with world history to recognize the shoutouts to real world events, civilizations and historical items—not that any of that is necessary to enjoy the story! Just a little extra perk to appreciate if you do. The world sounds like an interesting setting gradually being fleshed out with social, political and martial details. There’s a contemporary/near future feel so far. Clearly at least some shared history with the world we know, but there are also some definite differences hinted at. Attention is given to the kind of details where I can easily picture what’s going on. Very human gestures are mingled into the dialog. To me, that adds nice flavor without needing to be wordy. Good balance between dialog and narrative. There’s room for improvement with some of the grammar, but overall nothing that detracted from my experience. I don’t remember any spelling errors, though, and the vocabulary is accurately applied. Chapters are a satisfying length, and I’m very happy with the pacing so far. Again, no filler, also no info dumps. Overall, definitely recommend it!
