This storyline reminds me of "Versatile Mage or Quanzhi Fanshi" specially where Kai has dual magic of purple lightning and fire like Mo Fan. The bully in "Quanzhi Fanshi" is like Mike because of the ice element magic he have.

Those were my exact thoughts, I’ve seen a few stories like that and they are jarring as you keep on comparing them. I got to the end of versatile mage and quite enjoyed it.
