I am here from a pirate website I frequent to review and start paying for this absolute masterpiece. Where to begin? I'll start with characters. Usually, characters and their abilities are only loosely related, with the character ultimately either choosing or gaining abilities that compliment their personality and style. It works, but is predictable and played out. Now we introduce flaws, a system that applies a penalty for the power they receive. Flaws are, for the most part, just hard debuffs, but they heavily effect how characters interact with the world around them, fundamentally changing certain aspects of characters as they desperately attempt to hide or balance out their flaws. To further the point of the characters in this series, I must bring up Nephis. To be honest, it is clear that she is basically a more topical main character type, and she has all of the intrigue, style, conflict, and motivation to back up that claim. As far as the overarching world of Shadow Slave is concerned, at the moment, she is far more of a "main character" than Sunny himself, and that can only be seen as a good thing, the other characters in the story are simply developed well enough for them to achieve that status. The story development is also impeccable, and my keywords here will tie eventually into worldbuilding. The keywords are pacing and focus. Most stories, especially modern fantasy, love to skip or speedrun the whole "F to C" power progression, and often for good reason. In most stories, the story to be told can only really get started once the main cast reaches a certain power scale. This is not the case with Shadow Slave. Shadow Slave is not a story about levelling up; it is a story about trying against all odds to survive every single day in a hostile world, all while trying to struggle through the internal conflicts of deeply flawed (haha pun) main character. Next, world background/worldbuilding. The worldbuilding here is heavily complimented by the strength of the story development. Not only are we slowing down and focusing on our main cast, we are also taking our time to learn about the world piece by piece, one relic, one memory, one echo at a time. This creates a story that is (mostly) void of exposition dumps on how the world works, and who or what is behind the sinister mechanisms of the story. The reader is not told about the world, the first arc SHOWS the reader the world firsthand, and allows them to learn and experience it along with the main character, making each new revelation just as important to the reader as it is for Sunny himself. In conclusion, this is a must read for me, and I will be on this site for all future updates, because Guiltythree earns every penny this story has made.

I feel the need to note that I did indeed intentionally write "topical" and not "typical" in this review.
