(Only 5 chapters in) It's well written with a well-thought-out plot line from what I can see but I can't help but feel every single character who isn't the MC is just a plot device to further the MC's development. The Matron, The Bully, The Kids, the smelly apartment owner, each one has one character trait and one only. The Matron is abusive, The bully is abusive, the kids are innocent, and the apartment owner is a lecherous piece of shit who probably deals in drugs and people. None of them appear at length, and none of them appear again after serving their purpose. The bully just goes away after the trial. The Matron just goes away after the MC gets kicked out. The kids are meant to show what exactly? The her early years the Kids are also bullies, but after the MC gets into high school they all just vanish into the wind. Where did they go? What happened to them? What about Molly? The main bully who tormented the MC? Why did she just disappear? Did she get adopted? Did she leave of her own volition after she came of age? The author doesn't tell us because she was unimportant. Except she wasn't, she was a driving point for the Meek nature of the MC. Without Sally, the MC might not have had such a serve distrust of people. Same for the black girl that bullied the MC. She was sent to jail after she shot the MC but I'm over here wondering why? What motivation did she have? She was obviously a racist, or was she? We don't see her attacking anyone else, and because the school the MC goes to was diverse enough I don't think the MC was the only Asian there. So I wonder why the black girl was so obsessed with the MC that she would attempt to kill her. We don't find out. Because as soon as she serves her purpose she goes away never to be seen again. There is a clear pattern here. Each side character does one thing and then leaves. That say's a lot about the Authors writing. How narrow it is and will be when dealing with characters the author considers unimportant. They are important. Because if the side characters are One dimensional the MC will be the same. And that fact is reinforced heavily based on the fact that the MC for all intents and purposes is an idiot. Despite having an IQ on par with Tony stark, the MC is a dumbass. Overall it's decent as far as everything goes. But I want to see more, I want side characters that actually do something that isn't plot relevant. Or at least, I want to see the fallout their actions have of the side characters themselves. I'm not asking for you to write contained stories about them, but I want to see why these characters do what they do, and if they just fuck off into thin air the moment their role is over then why even bother reading the story? The MC is uninteresting as hell. The whole Shy Genuis archetype is played out and this MC in general just gets on my nerves. Trauma is a real-world issue I don't deny, but the fact that the MC is living a second life, memories in tack, and acts like a newborn babe in almost every situation is a huge turn-off for me. All in all. It's good, but it needs work.
