it would have been more interesting if the MC started his own pirate crew instead of following luffy. By following luffy the overall plot of the story remains the same with all the same islands.

To be honest I feel there aren’t enough fics like these out there(though I haven’t read it yet) since all the ones I see are half completed, marines, or they make their own crew but the original straw hats except the girls are never mentioned and we never see any characters other then major ones like admirals and Yonko.

True there's surprisingly less fanfics with MCs actually joining the Strawhats. More fanfics of them making their own crew or doing their own thing.
