Sorry, but the reason for his banishment alone doesn't make sense since no king would marry off the crown prince as a hostage. That would be the downfall for the kingdom after him.

LIKEhey, think a bit dramatically. i haven't read it but it could be that the emperor wanted another prince to take the title of crown prince(an emperor can't just have one son yeah?) but the empress(or whoever his mother was) has a powerful family behind her so he couldn't just remove him directly. As for the crippling and being hostage hmm.. I've read a story where the crown prince was sent to another nation as hostage(can't remember the title of the story. the crown prince was Bai sth and the main lead(girl) was Ye sth(was reborn when she was 4 and in the translations was refered to as "si-niang" or sth, meaning fourth sister) and the one she married Yang sth. Let me know if someone remembers the story. I wanna re-read it.) AND for the crippling umm... i haven't thought it over yet ;)
in the story it becomes clear relatively quickly that your theory cannot be correct. I read the story before I wrote this review. and just because someone else made a mistake in their story doesn't mean it's right. It is simply due to a lack of understanding of the monarchy. Princes or princesses can be hostages but never a crown prince, if the crown prince is imprisoned, the latter normally loses the title.

If the mc had lost the title of a crown prince and would have been married into another family, that would be different, but that the crown prince married somewhere in a family is unrealistic.

In short, what makes no sense is that he still had the title of crown prince when he was married. he should have been revoked before the wedding, not after his refusal.

and why would they cripple him if the kingdom is afraid of the enemy/possible ally country then they should have people much more powerful and talented than the MC so not crippling his cultivation wouldn't really matter
