It was a great read until I found out the ML has a concubine... Or is there some explanation? I mean its such a pity, she's so interesting and the pacing was nice...

It is hard to tell. The first concubine is self appointed somehow and hasn’t been accepted by him as one. I suspect they were placed there by someone else he can’t easily deal with right now so he just lets them do what they want. He doesn’t really do much with them and mostly ignores them.
Kind of tricky. While we absolutely want only the monogamy, in ancient times, it was common for men to have multiple wives. Moreover,women were not having much rights. So as much as we do not want the guy to have more wives, the already existing concubines cannot be abandoned. The husband must be responsible for them. Else it is no different than "worse than killing" for those ladies. It is of course best if the guy doesn't marry anyone before meeting FL, of course 😌.
