Hi, I'm the author! Below you will see reviews claiming this story was marked and completed and finished in an unsatisfying way. This was true for a time but I reached out to my editor, had it changed back to serealizing, and am now writing the story once more... so please do join in reading from the start if you would like! Jacob Lyre's story is still ongoing!

What can I say? The book was amazing. The plot had a wonderful set of twists, and the implementation of it was spicy. Jacob Lyre, the main character, is your average Joe and he plays that role well. He makes mistakes and has to deal with the consequences of overconfidence, rash thinking, and taking an optimistic rather than pessimistic, or realistic perspective. I think the world-building of this story is better than other stories—it's not too little nor too much. In certain chapters, more details could be needed for certain situations, but how the author decides to do so is up to him. Perhaps in certain situations, fewer details are better than usual. (Although, something such as describing the misty atmosphere or the rusted piping, showing how Jacob is heading into a more industrial area. It is the little details that help readers appreciate the story more.) The pacing is a bit too hectic for my liking, but so be it. Some stories work better if they move faster. (At least you aren't pulling a Psychic Parasite and having the main character finally start taking action by the 30th chapter, whereas the past 30 were delineating everyone's lives BUT the main characters and eventually killing them off/making them useless at the end.) And to cap it all off, we have a snarky and cocky "system" which "reflects Jacob's personality", providing comic relief in dire situations. Honestly, I love this twist. Jacob's thinking and behavior are shown through the system, along with his personality, and the possibility of future character development is allowed, both for Jacob and the system. Despite that, BB (the system) shines brighter than the main character at some points, such as providing critical information, with the limitation that he can't do much during combat (due to restrictions imposed by synchro mode). Although the system tends to lead Jacob by the leash with the rewards for emergency quests, there are no dire failure rewards, such as the cliché "Failure: You die." moments. The plot armor consists of "Emergency Quests", unique rewards, and random encounters, while Jacob is being ignorant (but we don't talk about that. That's bound to happen within any story, so deal with it, you critics.) It's a great story all in all. From the plot, setting, characters, and abilities, to the snarky system and events that occur within the story. Well worth reading! I'm still at the beginning of chapter 33, so I'll be updating this if there's any noteworthy changes.

Intergalactic conquest with an AI

Rex was just another slave in the corporate machine, a faceless office worker under the shadow of one of the galaxy's powerful megacorps. His life was predictable and dull, an endless cycle of meaningless reports and fluorescent-lit monotony. That was, until that day.... When a new world was discovered on the outskirts of the galaxy, Rex, like countless other low-ranking employees, found himself dragged into a contract clause he’d barely skimmed years ago. The megacorp ordered him and his coworkers to pack their lives into a transport pod and leave for the unexplored planet. Their mission? Establish a colony. Mine resources. Make the company richer. There was no choice, refusing meant ruin. At first, everything seemed manageable. The days were grueling, the nights cold, but progress was steady. The colony was coming to life. Until the excavation team struck something. No one knew what it was at first, a buried hive, a forgotten ecosystem, or something ancient and dangerous. Whatever it was, it unleashed hell. Swarms of enormous, chittering creatures erupted from the ground, their jagged bodies blotting out the sky. The colony fell into chaos. Screams echoed through the air as the bugs tore through everything in their path, walls, machines, and people. Rex barely survived. Bloodied, broken, and pinned beneath the rubble, he should have died there. But in the pitch-black silence of his fading consciousness, a voice spoke to him. Cold. Mechanical. Otherworldly. "Do you wish to live?" When Rex woke, he was no longer the man he’d been. His body was no longer human flesh and bone but something far more alien. His skin shimmered with living metal, his mind infused with the power of Cleo, a mysterious AI from a long-extinct, robotic race known as the Kaelzars. Cleo’s presence pulsed through his thoughts, guiding him and transforming him. He wasn’t just alive. He was reborn. But survival came at a price. Rex was no longer a pawn of the megacorp; he was something more dangerous, something they couldn’t control. As Cleo’s intentions began to reveal themselves, Rex found himself standing on the precipice of war, not just with the bugs but with forces far greater than he could have imagined. This was the beginning of a journey through blood-soaked battlefields and treacherous alliances. Along the way, Rex would encounter allies, brilliant, flawed, and unpredictable, and enemies whose ambitions were as sharp as their blades. These weren’t disposable foes, easily crushed by an overpowered hero. They were cunning, relentless, and human in the most terrifying ways. But then again, in war, who can truly be called a villain?
