I believe that the reference to Alpha and Beta are to the titles that the characters have within the story. So for proper manners in the werewolf community, it is expected to refer to them with the titles, like Alpha Wyatt, Beta Ford, Lead Warrior Mason, Luna Kane and High Elder Rose. What you suggest instead? I have read a lot of werewolf stories and the Alpha and Beta of the pack are often talked to with their titles in front of their names. Just like if they were part of a royal family, like King, Queen, Earl, Duke, Duchess, etc.
