‼️Warning ⚠️ The title and description are misleading. The leads ARE NOT DIVORCED, and it’s explained that neither of them actually want a divorce. The FL is just saving money incase of a hypothetical divorce scenario, because they are only married in name (they hardly spend any time together). The book is actually about the journey of two married people who have been indifferent to each other for 4 years of marriage, finally spending time together and getting to know each other. Eventually they will fall in love and live happily ever after. Yay 🙃 ✏️ My review is only from reading the 40 trial chapters, but I’ll explain below in more detail so spoilers ahead: Personally, this book was incredibly frustrating for me😖. I’m clearly in the minority here when I look at the other reviews. I do not particularly like the leads in the beginning of this book. The FL and ML only get married to please their parents - neither party knows anything about each other beforehand, and even after 4 years of marriage they know nothing about each other unless it’s found out accidentally. Why?… Because they pretty much don’t speak to each other - mainly because the ML works away from home. Both parties do not believe in love, however, I’m going to say that the ML is at least 75% to blame for they terrible marriage (if not 95% 💩). He spends most of his time away filming and hardly calls home when away - and when he does it’s only to speak with his son. Now if he was in the military, this would make sense, but I just don’t get how you justify calling home once or twice a month and spending 95% of the year away from home when you in the entertainment industry. Why couldn’t he give himself a schedule that was less intense? The FL on the other hand changed her job from Africa to a university in China and actually invests time in their home life and son. She may not believe in love, but you can tell this woman puts effort into her life and she’d probably do it with her marriage too if her husband was actually there for it. The worst thing though, is that the FL thinks her husband is out of her league because he is a big-shot actor, however I truly disagree. As far as I can see, this guy has nothing going for him except being great at acting and pretending his wife doesn’t exist 😑. In truth, she’s way out of his league! Not only does she have a PhD and is teaching at a well known university, but she’s gone out of her way in helping and protecting wildlife by staying in Africa for 3 years. She’s also done an amazing job at being a mom and creating a good home for her son. At this point in time in the novel, she’s honestly better off single 🤷🏽♀️ That being said, when you’re in a secret marriage with a man who hardly comes home and has scandals matching him with other female celebrities on a regular basis (all fake news though, but still sucks), it’s not surprising she doesn’t value herself that much in their relationship ❤️🩹. Now I know that the novel will build up and they will eventually grow to love each other, but I just can’t like this book enough to want to read to the eventual chapter 200 or more when things get better. The ML can be summarized in one word for me so far: LACKLUSTER😒. I’ll add it to my ‘Read When I’m Super Bored’ shelf 🥲. The translation was good though 👍🏼
