I think everything seem promising except the name of protagonist. Hades seem a little chuunibyou , isn’t it? I will update my review once the novel got picked(If I don’t forget).

LIKELike how the heck have webnovel not figured out the trick of changing the names of characters from chinese to english names, change the name of the countries to a fictional one and remove the time to time mention of racism/ nationalism in novels. It doesnt change the plot much unless it is like IRAS where the whole novel is based on racism. Translators should have atleast that much liberty to make minor changes which doesnt affect the plot to make the novel more understandable to the international audience and thus attract readers who will be ready to pay for the chapters. Webnovel should seriously start hiring competent people outside of china who can think smartly.
naw I feel westernizing (if that's even a word) the novel ruins some of the flavor of a foreign novel. I mean what's the difference between reading stuff on here then on the many other better sites (money wise) that share the same quality. Also I feel like the translators might have gone too far, on some novels they even changed the setting from eastern cultivation to a western magic one. Finally, they started doing this only after most the trial reads at the time got bad reviews for nationalism and the 20 chap thing. While if you look in the FL section nothing has changed at all.
Also forgot to mention like how they change the fantasy setting from cultivation to magic. They changed the modern setting from China to America and I don't about you but I would feel weirded out that Americans in these stories do things that most would never do or even are part of their culture. You think they would kowtow, talk about face, talk about watching things while eating sunflower/watermelon seeds, use rmb or even have idiotic second generation young masters?
But they did it in Mages are too op and it has paid off well. I know that its way of storytelling is a major reason for its success but the way they gave the mc and important side characters an english name has also helped them come across as relatable. I also didnt come across any nationalism in it inspite of it being a VRMMO novel. That book is really a good example where this idea was executed nicely.
just looked up the the raws the MCs name was Faye not that Chinese sounding so I can assume it was the authors idea first especially since it was before they started forcing westernized versions down our throats first.
I agree but i dont think an english name would have anything to do with america. To most of us, english has been a primary or secondary language taught in school so we are well familier with it. An english name thus sounds more natural and easy to come across. I have read across 200+ chinese books by now and some chinese names like Chu maomao still feels very weird and funny to me. And even if it is a super cool name with some deep meaning behind it, my brain just fails to register names like those with thier overbearing and cool meanings.
Can you give me an example of a chinese book where it was overly westernised and thus degraged its quality. I havent come across any in this site
No, I meant how novels in the modern setting aka 21st century like I am really a super star, most of them the Mc is a Chinese borne doing Chinese things the translator would put them in America while still doing Chinese things.
I don't read much lately especially since I felt they were lowering in quality but I did find one that kind of annoyed me since it kind of confirmed that WN pirates. The adjudicator of death
That again comes back to the basic issue of chinese urban novels. These authors like to bring china as the centre of the universe if it is not already there. Reading novels with the minor anomalies mentioned is much better than reading a novel where people from every other country is evil and wants to kill mc. Of all the urban novels i have read, i can count the good ones in one hand while the list of bad ones never end. Some Good urban novels: Mages are too op Scholar advanced technological system Losing money to be a tycoon Some headache inducing novels: I have mansion in post apocalyptic world( achievements include nuking Philippines, japan and destroying America) Carefree path of dream(nukes america) most of vrmmo novels Iras ( the worst till now, tries to pretty much humiliate the whole world) All those cold beuty ceo novels and the list just goes on. The problem with these novels are that it was written with chinese demographic in mind and thus they dont mind nuking a country or two. If you releasing the novel in a international scale, webnovel should can try making changes to make it appealing to majority of people. But they dont seem to care abt quality nowadays as seen by the amount of monster taming novels released by now. Today the mtl of most can be found online and mtl is getting better And readable day by day. If this site doesnt have anything to offer better like improvised names and removal of chinese propaganda, then i wouldnt mind reading it in mtl where i have got used to the ignoring the grammitical errors. Who would want to wait and pay for 1 chp daily to read the same thing which is already available online. The only purpose of webnovel nowadays is to recommend novels which would then be picked by mtl sites unlike years ago when where it prefered quality over quantity.
Were you talking to me? Because if so it is a different subject and not really related to what we were talking about. Also still waiting for you to recommend a novel that benefitted from westernization.
i was just talking in general. As for westernized novels, i havent come across any other than Mages are too opp whether it be good or bad. As for that Adjucator of death novel, i havent read it yet although its summary sounded pretty cool. I will just go through it to see how it went astray
the only thing right about this statement is that people are tired of the hyper nationalism in the novels. most did not care much about a slight amount of nationalism since its a chinese novel for chinese people but there are some novels where its taken to the extreme. those are the novels people refused to read even when they where good apart from that. There has been multiple novels in webnovel and wu.xi.a.wor.ld where the protagonist has a western name and are not as popular as ones with chinese names since this is not really something that attracts readers more.
I wouldn't consider that a westernized novel. When I say westernized I mean when translators forcebly alters the original author's work to suit western taste. Also got another bad one to recommend the newly picked magic sign in novel. It's so bad the MC has multiple Chinese and English names. It's even worse that it made more sense when I read it thinking it was a eastern novel. Kinda shows that the translator changed the setting from a martial art novel to a magic one. If you don't believe me on that could you show me the raws? Because I can't nor can most people unless they look very deep enough because WN changed the raw and author's name probably to hide their tracks. At this point if you think westernized novels are still a good move because of no nationalism you're still probably wrong on that, this website is so bad I'm willing to bet they will still take nationalistic novels to sing praises of America instead while bashing other countries (probably Russia they're always the bad guys in American media) or maybe even the same countries they always bash (Japan and Korea)
dont forget that a lit of the works released are just mtl as well recently
