Review: ok…. originally I wrote my review but was not saved because of this app’s swiping issues. Wish they would program this with draft function. Anyhoo, this is a good novel. But somehow it would leave a bit of dissatisfaction with the reader. Was it because of the ending? I don’t know. I just know that I want more because there’s still room to develop. The plot is good and centered on her pregnancy. Because of it, she saved a few people along the way. Except for the remaining 18 special forces who turned into superpowers, the others she saved were The weak ones left behind by the survivors. The weak ones include the neonates, orphans, doctors, nurses, pregnant women, elderlies, handicapped, abused and ordinary people. These people formed her village and town which paved the way of keeping the skills and passed on to the next generation. The characters are good too. The protagonists are not too OP but are reasonably believable. They are not all-knowing but the other characters complement them. Some are even better than them. The ML Ye Yu, a fire and light superpower is an idiot in absorbing power from the nucleus and would need Su Su’s help to do it. He eats the nucleus rather than absorbing it.😪. I guess I got used to reading special forces ML whose intelligence is off the marks.😉 Him and the remaining 18 special forces are all superpowered and owed their lives to Su Su. They are all orphans and hence chosen to form the death squad from the special forces to fight against the zombies from CDC. They were not briefed on what to expect. They were sent to die. If not for the phone call between Ye Yu and Su Su with Ye Yu’s old fashioned phone, they would not know how to kill those zombies or even get out from their fear in time to kill and to save their lives. But still, they lost 2 brothers because of the selfishness of the people they saved. The FL Su Su is a freshie college undergraduate even if she’s reborned back to before the apocalypse, her knowledge is limited. All she knows is some future events and that she has to protect her baby and parents plus Dr. Zhou, her ob-gyne who saved her and her baby from her previous life. She’s not a saint and bent on saving people she meets. She’s actually cold and unfeeling to strangers. Makes sense for her to develop her water power to ice power making her into dual powered person. She’s not the typical FL who will arrange for others. But she lets those whom she saved to choose for themselves. FL parents are also superpower: wood for her mom and earth for her dad. This is worth mentioning as they form the backbone for her group. Her mom is not aware of her power and just thought about her mutant souls and seeds. So Su Su’s group didn’t run out of food. Her dad was a retired ex-soldier who works as a bus driver. His interest lay in building. He built hydroelectric generators, solar panels, walls, solar cars etc. His thoughts lay on building to keep his family safe. The 2nd ML is Big Brother Xie. He protects her the best way he could and often argues with her. He is a good and righteous person. He died not because of zombies or mutants but because the brother (cousin) he’s been protecting killed him by accident when he shot Su Su. His death could be termed accidental suicide. Before his death he was mentally, spiritually, and emotionally tired. His aunt bound him to her son with her suicide. This scum is not even worth saving. He can’t put down his grudge because of his perceived green hat. Xie Qingyan was bent on killing Xiao Ai and Ye Yu hence Su Su too. 2nd ML Xie Yaoshi felt that he can’t protect the woman he loves as a man. As a brother he has a brother who can’t let go of his evil thoughts and can’t keep on protecting. As a captain, he became a prisoner. In her previous life, Xie Yaoshi was the number 1 master as he has a rare power (seems more like electricity than lightning). But in this life he wasn’t able to become one because of his burden. His aunt and cousin are both selfish, disregarding his life and safety at all. So in the end, he can’t kill himself because of his promise but he can save Su Su for the last time and end his life without breaking his promise. A pity though, Su Su was amnesiac at that time and only thought that she was Su Su who lived in the apocalyptic world for 12 years. So this book was all about her killing those people she killed in her previous life. The author didn’t narrate more on the cause of apocalypse other than mentioning CDC. Tragedy was everywhere. Heroism was few but good. Evil of course is everywhere too. Goodness is also present. This is still a good read to pass the time.
