What everyone means as wish fulfillment is that nothing is properly explained and powers are just given to the mc, it’d be fine if it was just handing out powers but then the author went and gave completely stupid reasons for everything happened.

wish-fulfillment: the satisfying of unconscious desires in dreams or fantasies. it doesnt mean that nothing is properly explained and powers are just given to the mc. it's literally just a story wrote with wish fulfillment thoughts, a story can be wish-fulfillment even with everything explained and good reasons and powers earned with hard-work, just because most people on this site/app use that reason to make the mc op without giving reasons and things like that it doesnt mean that it's related to powers, you can find novels with guys who got a cheat in an entertainment world or something like that, without powers and things like that but it's still a wish-fulfillment story for me. (i got nothing against you, i just wanted to let you know what i think about what u wrote)

No, but he is correct in that it is what people usually mean. They mean the authors dream of their SI having this or that, but not how they work to gain it. At its core, novels are about progress, or in other words "wish-fulfillment." About achieving something. Adversity, intelligent solutions, hard work, and earning even greater rewards are things that give more value to it. If the MC is just given the ending/the endgame/what they strive for, then the story ends before it starts. This is what ppl usually mean. And you should know what actually matters when they say this, it's not the part that says "wish-fulfillment." It is the part that says *IT IS JUST* "wish-fulfillment." Meaning there's nothing more to it.
