What does Linear mean, story wise? Like how is this story different from the other? (I have not read either, because I did not know the difference.)

1. Arranged in or extending along a straight or nearly straight line. "linear movement" 2. Progressing from one stage to another in a single series of steps; sequential. "a linear narrative"

Well, I know what linear means lol. But a story being linear is just a normal story in my view. So what is the other story? How is it different? How is it non-linear?

I'm not 100% sure but I remember something about the story jumping from Marvel to DC and the DC part was in the future I think.
