I started reading this at 3am and read the whole thing. This book is weird...scratch that. It's unusual. Most books are so predictable that I skim over most of each chapter. In this book there was something going on in every paragraph. You have to read every word because the most off-hand remarks might mean something later. The spell thing is weird, but I like their interactions. The ML isn't sexually aggressive, and he doesn't solve all of her problems. What he does is right the wrongs committed against the FL to give her a level playing field. The side stories of the Gao grandson, her Qiu classmate and her fellow math competitors are engaging and don't feel like filler. You wonder what will happen to these characters. Her parents are pretty cool, and the arc where her mom stops being bullied by her mother-in-law is very cool. I wish we didn't have to wait so long because I want to know if her thesis gets published or stolen, what becomes of her live-streaming classmate, and what will happen with Lu Chao at Old Gao's party? Pros: Sane FL FL comes across as a bit Asberger's, so her low EQ and high intelligence make sense. The ML has an agenda as he followed her from the start, but he isn't a sexual bully, nor is he the typical CEO/mobster. He doesn't have a bloody torture room in his basement and he hasn't hurt a fly as yet. The dad confronts his mean mother. The grandfather backs up the dad and declares that tormenting the FL is out. The grandmother's daughters and granddaughters are filth. The mom stands up for herself. The FL has her mom's back as she finds her feet. The WeChat group is hilarious. The evil cousin is going to end up going to a bad online college because she's an idiot and she wastes her time when she should be studying. Con: The wait for more chapters. All in all it's a good read.
