This is a novel that you will either hate, or love.
As for me, I have yet to decide.
The writing and setting is realistic and NOT following most of the normal 'FL is damn strong' sort of person after being betrayed.
*spoiler alert below*
The FL is EXTREMELY weak, in the sense that she has no self-esteem or love. That is, however, understandable as she has been brainwashed by the white lotus repeatedly from young. The man she married, is not a total douchebag as he had been honest with her from the start about his heart belonging to another. He was nice to her during the marriage but ... well, that's where he stopped being the 'nice' guy.
Like any typical man, he thinks being nice is enough. This is a marriage and no matter what, he should have worked at it honestly. Even if your heart was with another, once you get married, you need to be sincere to your wife.
But no.
And he immediately divorces her when that said 'true love' returns. On the one hand, this is good because he isn't playing with her feelings on the other hand - marry when convenient, divorce when not.
In short, he is totally irresponsible.
As for the FL?
Like I said. Weak. Still hopelessly in love with ex-husband that when he gives her some sweetness (which is sincere), she grabs it like a starved woman. This is, tbh, very realistic but hard to see. I don't mind this part really.
I just mind the part that she cannot stand up for herself even after everything. She is such a pushover, such a softie, such a whatnot when it comes to the abuse her ex-husband gives her that it isn't funny.
As for the ML?
He's overbearing. Yes. But again, realistic. Why? He has lost his memories and the ONLY thing that is keeping him sane is the FL. He doesn't know why but he just does. Because of that, his actions (though seems bad) is justifiable.
Imagine seeing the ONE thing that makes sense to you, reject you? How will you react? How will you act? The fact that he hasn't r*ped her is proof enough of how hard he is trying. Yes, he has sexually assaulted her and some may find even this to be 'unredeemable', but come on. He's human, not a perfect man. She is his oasis, and triggers such primal need in him. It doesn't mean he can do what he did, but you can understand him and forgive him for it.
If YOU can resist, then you can stand on the moral high ground and look down on him all you want.
In short, this novel is refreshing in the sense that the characters are all REAL. The ML and FL are not perfect. The ex is not a total douchebag and evil. Even the white lotus is not made out to be unreasonably unreasonable - she was bad to have done what she did in the past but now, all she wants is to get back what she had let go.
I find it frustrating that the FL keeps see-sawing. I find it aggravating that she lets the ex-husband and causing make use of her. I find it infuriating that her mother is so unrelenting and mean in her desire of doing 'what is the best' for her daughter.
Yet, I keep on because I want to see ... what will it take for her to finally, really, grow?
