Dude if you pay attention his explanation about "imprinting" in this novel, you'll find out that it's not mind control but something like fate/karma or foresight that tells u that's the person who will understand u and the other way around, and will be happy with. Personally I won't mind it for my self, making a choice that u may find out was wrong in the future is quite the pressure.
