General observations. Go to the comment section of Chapter 60 to read my full review and comments on the book the author mentions in Chapter 36. This book touches on gender roles in China/Asia, family interference in marriages, and being used by those you love. It's NOT your standard weak FL/cold jerk ML. Go to the comments if Chapter 60 and you'll see why. This is less like the usual r-ape novels and more like the FL being an indentured servant. Her mother and brother clearly see the ML as a cash cow, and they have no qualms about putting the FL in a position where she can only repay the ML with her body. Her mother is as crass as any pimp. Her mother makes pimps look like losers who have no fiscal goals. You might call her weak, but I see this as the filial piety that Chinese friends exhibit when their parents value their son more than their daughter. What's the saying? Chinese daughters are wasted water or spilled water? You rear them and they go to a husband's home and care for his parents first, so why value a female child who is a temporary resident in the family? As for the ML, imagine caring for someone who only approaches you when she needs money for her family. That would be a huge ego blow, and ego blows are repaired with a steady stream of women. So far, the FL's family is the source of all problems. Let's see how this pans out. The second ML is intriguing because I wonder if his role will mirror the 2nd lead of the book mentioned in Chapter 36. There is a Chinese title showing on the app version of 'About this book' but I can't find the raws. If you look closely, there's a writer and a translator and the book is listed as an original in english. If this is an original and not on Chinese novel sites, we'll have to wait for chapters. I'm sticking with it. I want to see how the second ML pans out, and I want to see her family suffer when she refuses to ask her husband to save them again. If you didn't mind the info presented here and in my comments on Chapter 60, and if you can view the characters through the filter of Asian social norms, you might enjoy this book too. Personally, I love it when something I'm reading teaches me something new about how other people live. I really like where this author is going. Forgive the rambling.
