Well, let's first start saying that this is a greeeeeat novel, with a way higher quality than what you usually find here. The world ain't nothing special, just a normal world really similar to ours, but it was well written, nothing to complain about. Now the plot is where this novel shines, with a combination of various tropes in multiple plotlines, which one with different characters, bringing a new twist to the usual cliche storyline, and the writer was brilliant seeting things up. It's worth mentioning that the writer did a good job with LGBT characters, great really, I really like the romance in the superhero storyline, and I was so happy when I didn't discover any 18+ stuff here, it is just pure, innocent, friends-turn-into-lovers type of romance. Now the bad partsss, ok ok, not necessarily bad, just annoying and maybe a little disappointing. The thriller/mystery storyline is great, I love a good detective story, but I felt that the mystery is getting left behind to give place to drama, I know discussing social issues is important, and I'm thankful they are being discussed, but I read fantasy to take myself away from the issues I see in RL and some things in the novel were hitting a little too close to home, I just expected a little more mystery in the mystery plotline. But that isn''t the biggest problem, one of the villains is, Jason, the half japanese transphobic/sexist/homophobic villain of the mystery storyline. With so many LGBT characters, intolerent villains were innevitable, but putting all the possible types of intolerance in a single character is the recipe of a bland, one dimensional and unlikeble villain. After all, he already had a conflit with the protagonist of the plotline, the whole stolen secret information thing that was going on, making him the incarnation of intolerance was just another way to make him look evil and make completely impossible to the reader to relate to him. Seeing such a good writer using cheap methods like this really breakes my heart. I was expecting having villains, which one with a type of intolerance, scattered through the different plotlines, or something similar, the-supreme-incarnation-of-all-evil type of villains just don't sit well with me, they always seems like a sloppy excuse to not create a proper antagonist. I think the main problem was in which plotline this villain appeared, the one based on death note, a novel with a protagonist and antagonist that are memorable and full of personality, I wouldn't mind this type of villain in a more drama/emotion based plotline like the heroes one, but seeing it in the mystery one left me disappointed. That said, I'm going to take a break from this novel, at least until I forget that awfull jason POV, but I still think this is a great novel, with great writing, really well done, and deserves more attention. I'm really surprised that more people aren't reading this. Congratulations to the writer !! And good luck with your novel !!
