Just curious, but... Don’t other fanfics also go the happy-go-lucky slice-of-life-ish Route? Though I haven’t read many Naruto fanfics so I can’t tell.

Most are realistic and explain things like why did everyone know the nine tails was in naruto but not that he was the 4th’s kid. Why did the hokage allow him to be bullied when he was “the ultimate weapon”? Did the village betray naruto’s mom’s clan? Etc. They often put the leaf village in a negative light and you can’t argue since the arguments they make are good.
