Harems are not relevant, usually, they have the ending, also typical, the choice of one single. What is more characteristic of the West. True, but a harem can make or break a novel for me. While harems have been quite commonplace, id rather have a harem with useful and recurring female leads, than character who show up just to be dominated for a few chps and then left in some region or area for the rest of the book.

stories with harems are typical ... in 9 cases out of 10, the ending is that the character remains either with one girl or generally alone. And the endings are usually very weak.
