If you’re just reading the plot, you can skim the chapters and possibly enjoy. If you’re looking for a semi-intelligent mc, this is not for you. If you’re looking for original characters, this is not for you. If you’re looking for immersion, this is not for you. The mc will plan out what he’s going to do, then act surprised when it actually happens. The higher beings are generally stereotypical bad guys, callously looking at mortals as possessions (which is already found in a myriad of xianxia so not something that affected my rating) The amount of breaking-the-wall that happens takes you out of the story, and loses any seriousness it may have had. (Personally not a fan) In summary, a lot of aspects, especially character creation, are subpar. However the plot has its merits and could later progress into something quite significant.

For someone who has only read 7 chapters of this novel, you sure do reinforce my need to revise the beginning of this novel, which I thank you for. Anyways, I'd highly suggest you continue to read the novel. Or not. I'm not persuading you. Thanks for the heads-up though. Getting a review like this yet again pushes me to strive further.

I did my best to leave it as a review and not as an attack. Like I mentioned, the plot is definitely unique and fairly interesting. And like you mentioned, I only got through the first bit, which means I might be missing out on great growth, both in the novel and in your story-telling. I found it difficult to read, which is why I left my review earlier than I normally would. However, since you took the time to reply I don’t mind reading further to prove me wrong/change my mind.

I’ve just about read all that’s been released of AwaRB. Thanks for the recommendation, it’s a great novel. The only three downsides being 1) The author’s English vocabulary and grammar, and not having an editor, 2) The fact he never planned for it to get as much attention, so he didn’t think about the long term would be and only planned for a single story arc 3) Inconsistent publishing, due to the fact that he has other novel(s) and isn’t getting paid to write the story. However, none of those issues affect the story, and I’ve become fairly invested in John. I look forward to where it goes as he starts to pick up on his releases. 8/10, very nice story

glad to hear you liked my suggestion. yay, the reason why he hasn't updated in the last 8 months is because of COVID he works as an amazon fulfillment employee in the states somewhere and ended up getting overworked. (you can see him talk about it over on his account on royal road if I remember right (been 8 months since I last look so don't know for sure where it went)) his profile over there does confirm that he does work for amazon though.

Okay, I'm not trying to be mean but I hate when authors are like "Oh, i get better eventually so continue reading" or "I got better later you never gave me a chance" when it should be good in the beginning too. You can't expect them to continue because you got "better" later when it should've been better now and it should also be able to catch the interest of readers. I'm just starting to write again myself because I was practicing writing style( still not good) because I don't expect people to read again if the beginning isn't good because I got "better" later.

I didn't say anything like that though? Either way, good luck on writing!

All good, all good. I just told him that his review made me realize that I should refine the beginning of the novel to reach the same level of quality as my current chapters, that's all
