I loved pokemon as a kid, and reading this brings back all the best memories I had playing it or watching it, while also adding a new dimension and twist to things with how the characters and training systems are slightly different. It is well written, and balanced too, with the mc being intelligent and op, but not to the extent that nothing is a challenge and the book becomes boring. The author does a great job balancing cool and powerful with reasonable development, and the mc experiences challenges without getting beaten down or ever seeming weak or stupid. This is a great read, super fun and full of nostalgia for me at least, and I can't recommend it enough.
