Terribly unrealistic and unbelievable. MC also appears to be pretty retarded. The story starts with a 20something unemployed frenchie with no car, no income and no money apparently supporting his little sister. Instead of getting a job and providing for himself and his family as any normal person would do he instead spends thousands of dollars he pulls out of his ass to go to university.. doing nothing useful and also not even something that could help in the future. Then several adults decide to, in broad daylight in front if security cameras commit battery and assault (felony with jailtime) and literally almost kill the MC. Not only does the MC go along with it he also doesnt call the police. Apparently the hundreds of people he walked past while covered in blood also did not call the police of even question what happened or try to help. That's as far as I got. This belongs in the trash can with the rest of the retarded **** on this site.

I get the gist of your review... but sometimes, if things are made to be too realistic, most people rather think it too boring. Don't forget that you're reading a piece of fiction which is tagged as 'Magical Realism'. Most pieces of fiction, even the ones that are biographical, tend to overexaggerate something in order to bring some drama, excitement and suspense. Even in real life sometimes things happen that we can't quite fit into normal circumstances. And overexaggerating things/plots to emphasize a certain human behaviour (love, hate, greed, detachment). If you put on the news, there are plenty of crazy stories that seems straight out of the books. Some of those stories lack context, but a lot of them sound really unrealistic and if they weren't on the news, I would have never believed them as well because of how ridiculous they sound. By the way, sometimes reality is much worse than fiction, much more frightening, cruel and detached from what should be 'normal'. The only unrealistic thing in this story is the system. The rest, everything that you've listed unrealistic and unbelievable, actually could have happened somewhere (maybe not all at the same time/place/with the same person)... just saying.

Really? That is how you reply to his criticism? Not even an explanation? No response to the valid point? Or how to make it better? Really?

That’s not criticism lol, that’s just an insult. I don’t see the need to answer to an insult.

How is asking how an unemployed person with no car, no income and no money apparently supporting his little sister an insult? How about the one on "Instead of getting a job and providing for himself and his family as any normal person would do he instead spends thousands of dollars he pulls out of his ass to go to university.. doing nothing useful and also not even something that could help in the future." ? Or this? "Then several adults decide to, in broad daylight in front if security cameras commit battery and assault (felony with jailtime) and literally almost kill the MC. Not only does the MC go along with it he also doesnt call the police. Two things, if he read until chapter 4 he would know that he have a job, he isn’t stupidly going to university and in France uni is free so he isn’t using « thousands » to study, I didn’t read the rest as you probably are just like him

You mean being a mover? How much does that earn? Is it enough to support his spending for food, transportation, water, electricity, house rent (if house is not owned), clothing, educational materials (because even if tuition is free, there are still a lot of things to buy like books), and tuition for his sister. How old is he? How did he get custody of his sister? The government allowed this? How are the readers supposed to know that universities in France are free (for its citizens at least)? You never mentioned it in the novel. My point still stands, you have poorly received criticism. You should have answered the points raised instead of how you reacted.

I can see both points made by you and the author so I’m not really going to go pick a side. All I’m saying is I see both points, also I don’t blame the guy that made the review since he and others might not know that French uni is free. I also agree that the response to the criticism wasn’t reasonable. Unless the review was outright stupid and had no meaning behind it. A simple explanation would of been better, then anyone else who reads the review can understand (especially if they haven’t read it yet, like me).
