I think what this person meant with this review(and the quote) was exemplify the MC, he feels so absorbed in his rivalry that he can't see where he needs to improve to be a better actor nor can realize that the love interest actually feeds this conflict to gain attention and be the number one in something on his loved one's heart. And this person wanted too to criticize people that just has hatred discourse about BL. Like, I saw a entire review about people saying this shouldn't be in the female lead section, and that they regret expending their Spirit Stones in this. But I hardly believe the translator had another option since most of the stories of the genre are in this classification and I don't even know if it is possible put in another.
The whole "female lead section" nonsense is stupidity at its finest from the very start. I doubt the Translator, and probably not even the Author have any kind of control which section this novel gets put in. That was almost certainly an executive decision from Webnovel, so if people have problems with that decision they need to take it to the FORUMS not the review section.
