I've had time to think about this story, and quite simply it just isn't very good. would you sacrifice almost everything else for :comedic: bits and pieces? (and I say pieces very literally here as most times that's all it is; pieces of) I see all the reviews about; "don't take it seriously or you won't have fun!" but when the actual story itself brings the reader out of that mindless popcorn fest with its own disregard for even a basic standard of bookkeeping it goes a little beyond the pale. see, I have no issue 'turning off my brain' if that's the kind of novel it wants to be, but it needs to be very careful with its own internal bookkeeping, so I don't actually have to be worried about it myself. that's the state of play a story like that has to bring to the table. it has to be consistent, and, ultimately, it has to be largely funny and fun. I, personally, think the story fails to do so, and it's all the worse because of the rest of the issues that fall by the wayside as a result or because of this idea that one doesn't need to care about the rest making sense or working so long as one or two things is done serviceably. but what do I know, right? 1800+ ratings and a 4.54/5 overall at this moment, it's gotta have something to it, right? maybe you'll see something I didn't, maybe it's just not to my taste, maybe I should ask myself why I pushed so hard to like this story? I read more chapters than I would normally do...
