It's my first time reading a character that had died in the ancient past and then reincarnated in the modern era, so my expectations were high. Not to mention it's a cooking novel without mention of spirit cultivation or reality-game systems. The initial idea is great but I'm now on chapter 50 and the cooking still appears incidental to the romance between the chef and his reincarnated wife-who-does not remember she was his wife in the distant past. That is to say, the newly-wed bliss has taken center stage. It's not a bad thing, but I wanted a story about cooking. It would be better if the romance was connected to the dishes in some meaningful way, like the connection of the husband-wife-lung-slices dish. If every dish had some meaning to the MC or his wife, then the cooking would not seem like something that had just been stuffed in the cracks between the daily newly-wed life of the MC. A few scenes with the MC adjusting to modern life would help the suspension of disbelief as well. Even with the memories of his modern reincarnation in his head, it's odd that he's not surprised or awed or mournful every now and then when the differences between modern China and ancient China come up. How about some discussion on the differences between his ancient!wife and his modern!wife and how it affects MC's view of the past and the future cultures? They're the same soul, but I refuse to believe there's no difference between a woman raised in the traditions of ancient China and a woman raised in the 21st century. Or a man for that matter. For example: his wife's idea about the food truck. Would an ancient Chinese wife have jumped into a business discussion between her father and husband just like that? Probably not. But the food truck being a great idea might have made the MC think better of his modern!wife. I mean, at this point he's technically in love with the ghost of his past wife that looks like his current wife. It's a story with potential anyhow. If you're the type to like a quick romance, then check it out.
